Assembly Technician

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assemble, disassemble, install, test and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical assemblies and subassemblies on aircraft systems.
  • Follow computer based and other specific processes and systems, including manufacturing planning, wiring diagrams, system schematics, process specifications, engineering sketches, and other forms of written and oral instructions. Follow specific tool control, FOD control and safety guidelines and policies.
  • Prefer At least 2 – 3 years recent experience with mechanical, electrical/avionics, sheet metal or composites on aircraft systems.
  • Need experience and proficiency in any or all of the following: Flight Control systems (build, install and rig), Fuel system installations, avionics, hydraulics, drive systems, brake systems, aircraft wire installation, Engine (build and install), Canopies and Doors. Rotorcraft experience preferred. A & P License preferred. Must be capable of working 1st or 2nd shift.
  • Work week based on a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Prefer At least 2 – 3 years recent experience with mechanical, electrical/avionics, sheet metal or composites on aircraft systems.
  • Need experience and proficiency in any or all of the following: Flight Control systems (build, install and rig), Fuel system installations, Avionics, aircraft wire installation, Engine (build and install), Canopies and Doors.
  • Rotorcraft experience preferred.
  • A & P License preferred.
  • Report job constraints such as: errors caused by workmanship, defects in parts, materials, assembly procedures, tools, sequences, etc., in accordance with Boeing procedures.

  • Perform any repairs, rework, functional checks and the incorporation of authorized changes, etc., as outlined by Lead.

  • Remove and/or replace installed components and any related parts.

  • Must be able but not limited to Drill close tolerance holes in composites, Tool indexing, Gap measurement.

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, schematics, engineering dispositions and instructions.

  • Be safety conscious; employ the use of safety glasses, safety harnesses, respirators, boot socks, and other pertinent safety equipment 100% of the time.

  • Exhibit exemplary housekeeping and Foreign Object Debris (FOD) standards.

  • Maintain clean, neat, organized and FOD free work area.

  • Possess understanding and knowledge of basic computer systems and programs.

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, and work in elevated and/or confined spaces as required.

  • Frequent overhead work may be required.

  • Frequent overtime may be required.

  • Must be flexible and able to work independently.

  • Lays out coordinated hole patterns, cutouts, trim lines, mating points, assembly and installation locations using precision measuring instruments and equipment.
  • Assembles and mates aircraft parts and assemblies.
  • Attaches structural parts and assemblies using riveting and hand and power tools, hand trim and finish.

  • Functionally checks, diagnoses, locates and corrects malfunctions, reworks/repairs any aircraft assembly, pneumatic, plumbing, hydraulic, mechanical, and rigging systems and structures and installations during assembly operations.
  • Performs experimental and developmental work operations on experimental aircraft or assemblies.
  • Assembles prefabricated parts into assemblies and mate major sections of aircraft assemblies.
  • Incorporates major engineering changes and modifications.
  • Improvise and fabricate temporary tooling, holding fixtures, and templates.
  • Use hand and power tools, layout tools, hoists and mechanical lifting equipment, test fixtures, functional test equipment and precision measuring instruments.
  • Records fabrication, assembly, functional check data and statistical data manually or with the aid of computer or computer-bases system.

  • Performs two year IFR 91.411 and 91.413 checks.
  • Use basic hand tools and avionics specialty tools. Read, interpret, and supports development of electrical fabrication and installation drawings.
  • This position is also responsible for control, servicing and calibration of equipment resources.
  • Interface with equipment manufacturers and material suppliers
  • Record keeping

Qualifications and requirements:

  • 3+ years of aviation electronics experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and schematic diagrams.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements and customer specifications.
  • Strong written and verbal skills required. 
  • Computer skills and general software knowledge necessary.
