- Statement of Work Needed for engagement:
• Rationale Statement: Boeing is experiencing low quality yield from current manufacturing process causing extreme delivery delays and sliding of airplane deliveries. The current supplier is quoting 5-6 week lead times for the turning processes.
We have GFO and our local Honeywell Recovery Team in Southern California daily and working between all critical suppliers affecting several products from the Torrance facility.
Need: Utilize Boeing Purchased Services contract for supplier recovery services including manufacturing process improvements implemented at Honeywell in accordance to the Statement of Work below.
SOW:
? Location: Honeywell, Torrance Site, CA
? What needs to be done or Accomplished?:
1. Technical Assistance with Materials, Machining Process and Cutter Technology. The key focus being to refine the machine process to limit the amount of straightening the must occur.
2. Evaluate current manufacturing process and identify process improvements (Material Removal & Cutter Technology). The key for this is the speeds, feeds, material removal method combined with the current machining process and cutting tool sweat utilized. The combination of all of this along with the excess left for post processing is a key piece of the manufacturing process to fine tune.
3. Work with Boeing Technical team on process standardization to increase yield from manufacturing process
? Commodity /Part information:
1. PN is 2783245-1 that feeds the 2780222-7 Assembly
2. These part numbers are Honeywell part numbers and are SCDs. This is specific to the RAT Shaft which is a very complicated machine part with features machined inside and outside the shaft along with several outside processing for heat treat and coatings. The part is 22” long, steel alloy (HP 9-4-30), and must hold a tolerance of +/- .002 for run out over the length of the part. Between the combination of the processes of machining, stress relieve and straightening there are several parts that are scrapped due to variation in the processes.
? Estimated Project Frequency & Duration:
1. Start Date: 08/07/2023
2. Duration: Approximately 30 days but could extend to 2-3 months
3. Frequency: 5 days a week; 40 hours per week, or in accordance to supplier production schedule
Deliverables:
? Documented process improvements with demonstrated improved stability shown in performance at the expected level
? Turning/milling complex machine parts
? Evidence of increase yield of manufacturing process that has sustained over time
Exit Criteria: Improve and refine the machine process to increase yield and limit the amount of straightening that must occur on the PNs referenced with process improvements identified and documented.
Success Criteria:
? Increased yield from manufacturing process where Honeywell can meet Boeing requirements with on-time delivery
? Evidence of timely and aggressive burndown
