Repair Engineer II

LAUNCH Technical Workforce Solutions is seeking an Repair Engineer with commercial repair/overhaul check experience on Commercial aircraft for an opportunity in Kansas City, MO.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

 

SUMMARY: Under minimal supervision, the Repair Engineer II supports the Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) activities of Aviation Technical Services (ATS) by providing aircraft structural repair dispositions to aircraft undergoing heavy maintenance and out of service due to various types of damage. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
•    Develops timely structural repairs for aircraft and components based on sound engineering principles driven by OEM, FAA, airline, and best practice guidance.
•    Works directly with mechanics on the aircraft to determine the best course of action, developing solutions that return the airplane to an airworthy condition meeting all regulatory requirements and returning the aircraft to revenue service in an expeditious manner.
•    Works directly with the aircraft manufactures, third party design centers, as well as develops the repair based on current available data.
•    Provides substantiation for approval authorities for the engineering soundness of repairs, describing not only the “how” but the “why” of the repair construction.
•    Creates drawings and repairs using CAD software.
•    Communicates Engineering solutions to mechanics, customers, and OEM representatives.
•    Applies information from Structural Repair Manuals (SRMs), Aircraft Maintenance Manuals (AMMs), Illustrated Parts Catalogs (IPCs), Service Bulletins (SBs), Airworthiness Directives (ADs) and other aircraft reference materials.
•    Interprets and uses aircraft manufacturing, assembly, and installation drawings.
•    Incorporates regulatory requirements for airworthiness, for the FAA and various foreign authorities (EASA, etc.) and include in engineering documents, drawings and designs. 
•    Provides technical guidance to less experienced staff.
•    Coaches and mentors others on best practices.
•    Approves engineering documents within authorized signatory level.
•    Volunteers for various assignments in order to hold program schedules.

OTHER DUTIES:
•    May require some overnight travel, being on-call, and responding to technical AOG situations during off hours.
•    May be assigned to alternative shifts such as day, night, swing, and weekends to support programs or installations.
•    Perform other duties as assigned.

•    Has regular and predictable attendance.


AUTHORITY:
The individual in this position may initiate technical instructions that are substantiated by data acceptable to or approved by the FAA and EASA or equivalent. For technical instruction pertaining to work accomplished on aircraft or components operated under CFR Part 91, 121, and 145, authority is as specified by the air carrier's procedures and/or ATS Repair Station Manual.

This position is prohibited from performing any safety sensitive functions to include the accomplishment or direct supervision of the following:
•    Aircraft maintenance – This includes inspection, overhaul, repair, preservation, and the replacement of parts.
•    Aircraft preventive maintenance – This includes simple or minor preservation operations and the replacement of small standard parts.


SAFETY RESPONSIBILITY:
Duties shall include observing all company, health, safety and environmental rules, ensure provision of full information on area specific safety orientation, identify all unique hazards, and are provided with the proper equipment to carry out the job in a safe manner. Also, the entire work area must be routinely inspected to maintain a high standard of housekeeping and low incidence of physical hazards and all accidents must be promptly reported.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
•    Understands and able to apply information from Structural Repair Manuals (SRMs), Aircraft Maintenance Manuals (AMMs), Illustrated Parts Catalogs (IPCs), Service Bulletins (SBs), Airworthiness Directives (ADs) and other aircraft reference materials.
•    Ability to accomplish basic stress analysis and substantiation for repairs or modifications using standard accepted industry practices and other structural design methodologies. (Note: this is not a stress engineer position, but a basic understanding and ability is required).
•    Ability to apply knowledge and skills to develop creative solutions to a wide variety of unique design, modification, and repair problems encountered.
•    Genuine openness and willing desire to learn and grow with guidance from senior engineers, mechanics, and specialists from a variety of fields.
•    Comfortable in a dynamic environment and aircraft heavy maintenance environment.
•    Proficient in Computer Aided Design tools.
•    Strong PC skills including the MS Office Suite.
•    Strong working knowledge of MyBoeingFleet and AirbusWorld.
•    Ability to understand regulatory requirements for airworthiness, for the FAA and various foreign authorities (EASA, etc.) and include in engineering documents, drawings and designs.
•    Ability to interpret and use aircraft manufacturing, assembly, and installation drawings.
•    Familiarity with composite structures and components repair methods.
•    Ability to understand and apply the policies and procedures of all customers.
•    Ability to be adaptable and flexible.
•    Assertive communication skills both verbally and in writing.
•    Ability to take constructive feedback, have a “self-starter” attitude, and genuine appreciation for aircraft and their complexities.
•    Ability to maintain positive attitude.
•    Ability to work with a wide variety of personalities and cultures.
•    Ability to manage time, manage one’s tasks in a timely manner, plan priorities and ability to easily flow with rapidly changing priorities. 
•    Strong problem-solving skills.
•    Ability to work and make decisions independently with limited supervision.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 
•    Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Engineering or related field, with five (5) years or more of relevant aerospace experience preferred; or eight (8) years of equivalent aircraft repair experience required.
•    OEM/MRO airframe repair/design experience preferred. 
•    Solidworks or AutoCAD experience preferred.


PHYSICAL EFFORT AND DEXTERITY: 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to sit, stand, and walk; use their hands and arms; talk or hear; and focus on objects close up. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

    
ENVIRONMENT:  
Normal business office conditions generally prevail. The noise level is usually low to moderate. May work in a cubicle, enclosed office, or open area. Floor may be carpeted or bare.
